Linear Gate Access Control in Malibu: What to Know First

Linear gate access control in Malibu is something we service independently, which means we can work on your existing Linear keypad, phone entry system, or card reader even if your original installer has moved on. In most cases, we can diagnose a Linear access control problem the same day you call, with a fix either on the spot or within a couple of days when a specific board or keypad needs to be ordered. Estimates are free, the price is agreed before we touch a wire, and every job carries our 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. This page is for homeowners along the Malibu coast, from Point Dume to Malibu Lagoon, who have a Linear gate system that’s not letting people in or out like it should. If your gate keypad is blinking, your remote worked yesterday and not today, or the gate opens when nobody pressed anything, call (559) 314-7708 and talk to an actual person.

How Linear Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • Linear APeX keypads with salt-fogged terminals. The Linear APeX series shows up on a lot of Malibu driveway gates, and the terminals where the low-voltage wires land corrode faster than the rest of the board. That ocean air sneaks into the keypad housing, and before long the keypad reads every code as invalid, or lights up but never sends the signal. We open it up, clean or replace the terminal strip, seal the housing properly with dielectric grease, and the keypad works again without replacing the whole unit.
  • Linear MGT obstacle transmitter drift on wind-prone gates. Many Malibu gates with Linear MGT transmitters start false-triggering after a few years because the sensor alignment drifts when winds push at the gate leaf. The transmitter detects an obstacle that isn’t there and the gate stops mid-cycle or refuses to close. Instead of disabling the safety loop, which some handymen do and which creates a real hazard, we realign the transmitter and receiver, test the closure force, and bring the system back to factory safe operation.
  • Linear MegaCode receiver boards that fill up with transmitter IDs. The Linear MegaCode line stores a limited number of unique remote IDs per receiver. Once the memory fills, adding a new remote either fails silently or kicks out an old one. We see this on Malibu estates where a gate remote has been handed out to every landscaper, pool person, and house sitter for a decade. We clear the memory, reprogram only the remotes that should be there, and document the list so you know exactly who has access to your property.
  • Linear AE-100 telephone entry units that go deaf after storms. The Linear AE-100 and related telephone entry systems are more common on canyon properties and gated lanes than on a single driveway, and they’re tough, but the phone line terminal block corrodes after wet winters. When the unit goes deaf, nobody can call the gate and the whole access routine breaks. We replace the surge-protected terminal block, check the line voltage, and frequently save the owner from replacing a perfectly good AE-100 head unit.
  • Worn Linear actuator motors that trip the breaker in reverse. On Linear swing gate actuators, a motor with worn brushes will sometimes run fine one direction and stall or pop the breaker in the other direction. The gate opens, then trips the circuit when it tries to close. That’s a motor diagnostic, not a circuit breaker problem. We rebuild or replace the actuator motor and check the gear train while we’re in there, because a gate that opens one way and dies on the way back is a gate you’ll end up parking outside.

Our Linear Gate Access Control Process

  1. 1
You call and describe the symptom. Someone answers, writes down what the gate is doing wrong, and schedules a time that actually works for your day. No voicemail, no call center queue.
  2. 2
We show up and run the diagnostic. We test the keypad, receiver, actuator, safety sensors, and wiring before we touch anything. If it’s an intermittent problem, we don’t guess and swap parts. We find it.
  3. 3
We explain what we found in plain English. We’ll tell you what failed, why it failed, and what it costs to fix it right. We quote the job before any work starts and you approve it before a wrench turns.
  4. 4
Parts decision: OEM or quality aftermarket. For Linear boards and receivers, we prefer genuine Linear parts when they’re available and current. For things like gaskets, mounting hardware, or wiring harnesses, we’ll use a solid aftermarket equivalent when it does the same job honestly. Warranty-safe and explained up front.
  5. 5
The fix, the test, and the day-to-day proof. We repair it, test every access point you use - keypad, remotes, phone entry, card reader - and run open/close cycles while the system is cold and again after sitting. Then we clean up the area and walk you through what was done.
  6. 6
Your 90-Day Done Right Promise. If anything about that repair fails within 90 days, one call brings us back. Plainly stated, in writing.

What Linear Gate Access Control Costs in Malibu

Most Linear gate access control repairs in Malibu fall between $180 and $650 depending on what failed and whether a part needs ordering. Replacing a single keypad or receiver board is often quicker and cheaper than chasing a wiring issue that has been slowly degrading for years. Here’s what we typically see:

  • Keypad replacement (Linear APeX or MegaCode): $185-$330 installed
  • Receiver board replacement (MegaCode): $240-$410 installed
  • Phone entry repair (AE-100 / similar): $220-$480 installed
  • Actuator or motor repair on a Linear swing gate: $380-$680 installed
  • Full access control upgrade to a smart system: $850-$2,400 installed, depending on the gate and what you want integrated

The big price movers are the age of the system, whether the existing wiring is still serviceable, and whether multiple access points failed at once. You’ll get a concrete quoted price before any work begins, not an estimate that balloons when the invoice arrives. Call (559) 314-7708 for an exact quote on your Linear gate access control job. Estimates are free.

Why Malibu Homeowners Call Gatewood Fence & Gate for Linear Work

We’ve been fixing gates up and down the Malibu coast since 2001, and Hal Gatewood has seen enough Linear boards and actuators in that stretch out past Point Dume to know exactly what goes wrong and why. Independent service means we don’t care which brand is on the post - we repair the Linear system you already own instead of selling you a brand-new everything. If a Linear repair is genuinely beyond saving, we’ll tell you that straight, and we can also work on your LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, Ghost Controls, or DoorKing gear if you eventually want to change direction. No job leaves the driveway until it’s tested, and every repair carries the 90-Day Done Right Promise. The person who shows up is the person who will answer if you call back. That’s not a sales pitch - it’s the way we’ve run the shop for two and a half decades.
