The bottom rail on a 605 is stitch-welded, and any standing water or irrigation overspray wicks into the seam, rusts it from the inside, and eventually the rail separates. A Malibu-specific reality: ocean humidity plus lawn sprinklers hitting the gate every night accelerates this faster than DoorKing’s own materials documentation suggests. We grind the seam, re-weld it solid, and seal it so water can’t sit in the joint again.
• Stripped brass limit-nut threads on the 9000-series slide-gate operators. The 9000-series openers use brass limit nuts on a steel drive shaft, and once grit from a beach-adjacent driveway gets into the gear cavity, those brass threads strip and the gate loses its close position - usually late on a Friday. • Cracked hinge-post plates on Model 610 decorative gates.
